Board of Trustees Election - one seat open
Term ends 2028

Marjorie McLoughlin

One of the happiest days of my life occurred in the first grade when I first learned that all those squiggles on the page were letters and that once I learned how to sound them out, I could read. From that moment to this, I have been an avid reader. Fortunately, my family appreciated my interest and my gifts from all my relatives were more often than not, books.

As a child, however, my experience with libraries was never very gratifying. I was an exuberant child and was always being told to be quiet and I often had to sit in a dusty corner. But in no way did this dampen my enthusiasm for reading. Eight years ago, when I moved to Valley Cottage, one of the first things that I saw was the Library. The architecture and the grounds were so beautiful and as my tax bill reflected the money that was going to the library, I thought that I should at least explore. From the minute I walked in it was so welcoming, so attractive and bright that it was like opening the door to a new world. So, I immediately applied for a Library Card. I soon learned that VCL is not only about books but offers a panoply of arts, music, services, and activities. It is truly a treasure trove of cultural experiences!

When a read in the Newsletter that there was a Trustee position available, I could not resist applying to be part of such a vibrant organization. As a life long social worker I strongly believe that we each have a responsibility to contribute to our community and that my experience as an administrator might be helpful.

With that as my backdrop, I am applying for the position of Trustee and have enclosed a brief description of my professional experience for your consideration.
