What is the SLCP? 

The Sustainable Libraries Initiative’s Sustainable Libraries Certification Program (SLCP) provides Valley Cottage Library with a tested, structured path forward to increase our library’s commitment to environmental stewardship, economic feasibility, and social equity.

Food Scraps Composting Bags 

Town of Clarkstown residents can now pick up their food scraps composting bags at the Library!

 

Bags can be picked up at the Circulation Desk.

Clarkstown residents must first register for the composting program at the Clarkstown Town Hall or Highway Department.

Plastic Bag and Film Recycling

Don’t trash your plastic bags, bring them to the Library to be recycled! 

 

Drop off your plastic bags and film in the collection box in the Library’s vestibule. Plastic must be clean, dry and free of food residue.

 

ACCEPTABLE PLASTIC

Produce bags, store bags, ice bags, Ziploc® and other similar bags, cereal box liners, case overwrap (from cases of water, paper towels, etc.), bread bags, newspaper sleeves, dry cleaning bags, bubble wrap, plastic e-commerce mailers.

UNACCEPTABLE PLASTIC

Frozen food bags, candy bar wrappers, chip bags, net or mesh produce bags, pet food bags, degradable/compostable bags or film, pre-washed salad bags, hot dog or meat wrap packaging, six-pack rings, disposable gloves, masks or protective wear, pool covers, lamination film, vinyl shower curtains or tablecloths, bedding or linen packaging, shiny/crinkly films like floral wrap
