Powerful, Emotional, and Intense

Special Guest Post by teen volunteer, Julissa

Under the Same Stars is a novel that ties together different timelines and teens who are all connected by hidden truths from World War II present day students who uncover secrets from the past. The WWII storyline follows girls like Sophie and Hanna, who are trying to survive under the Nazi rule while facing fear and difficult choices. In the present day, the other teens begin to discover the secret connections to these wartime events. As the dots start to connect, they’re pulled into mysterious circumstances involving love, betrayal and life altering choices forcing them to confront who they are and how the past impacts their present.

I enjoyed this book because not only is it just a mystery, but it also has meaningful and emotional themes that we can possibly connect to. It combines historical events and the timeline and the switch of perspectives between characters kept me hooked because I wanted to understand everything that was being portrayed and connected. Sophie and Hanna’s story stood out to me the most because it shows hope and courage even in the darkest of times which made their stories feel real and impactful. I also liked how the book showed emotional struggles like fear, friendship, and survival which made it more relatable and deep. I would recommend this book to readers who love to feel the emotions of the characters, especially through diction and imagery. Also readers who enjoy mysteries mixed with true history that slowly comes together in meaningful ways.
